Since 06th May 2018, both Dubai Petroleum Establishment and Dubai Supply Authority share their Executive Leadership Team:
Frederic Chemin is the General Manager and a Board Member of Dubai Supreme Council of Energy. Previously, he held several senior positions in exploration and development internationally at various operating oil and gas companies.
Before working in management positions, his technical work had been focused on exploration and greenfield developments while managing integrated teams to deliver resourceful solutions to complex petroleum projects.
Fred earned an MSc in Geology and an MSc in Petroleum Exploration from France. He also holds an Executive MBA from the INSEAD business school.
Abdulaziz Mohammad Janahi is Head of External Affairs at DPE and DUSUP. This role is a crucial liaison role, where he oversees all governmental affairs related to our operations. Abdulaziz is involved with a number of high-level projects covering security, facilities maintenance, transportation, travel and aviation logistics.
With over 35 years of experience in the oil and gas industry, his experience and knowledge is a huge asset to our business interests. Abdulaziz earned his Business Administration Degree in the UK.
Barry Hanley is the Head of Engineering at DPE and DUSUP. He brings over 25 years of oil and gas experience, over this time he has built considerable knowledge and experience within operations, brownfield modifications and large scale Greenfield Projects.Barry most recently was Head of Projects but has also held senior managerial roles focusing on Process Technical Authority and as a Lead Process Engineer. Barry earned his degree in Chemical Engineering from Heriot-Watt University.
Didier Lafont is the Head of Finance, IT and Supply Chain at DPE and DUSUP. Prior to taking his post with us, Didier was the CFO of the multi-billion Isarene Joint Venture in Algeria for Petroceltic. He started out the audit team, going on to hold several senior positions within the oil and gas industry since the mid-nineties. Didier was the deputy Group CFO at Perenco and Chief Accounting Officer at Madagascar Oil. He also held senior positions within the mining industry, acting as the CFO of London Mining Sierra Leone and General Manager of London Mining Colombia. His expertise lies in reorganization and optimization of international companies, focusing on finance, tax, commercial, supply chain, IT and administration aspects.
Didier earned accounting certificates as well as a BA in Finance and an MBA in Corporate Finance from Paris-Dauphine University.
Juan Pablo Freile is the Head of Exploration, Development, and Production at DPE and DUSUP. He possesses a great understanding of the complete field development life cycle and integration of geology, reservoir engineering, and well technology. His experience and expertise in re-development and oilfield life extension of varying complexity, both on and off-shore is a great asset to DPE. In terms of accessing additional reserves, an increase of production rates and operational cost reductions in several assets around the world; his technical proficiency and managerial experience have produced ground-breaking projects.
Juan Pablo earned an MSc degree in Petroleum Engineering from Herriot Watt University and an MBA degree from London Business School.
Dr Omar Mohammed Shams is the Head of Human Resources at DPE and DUSUP. An Engineer by profession, Omar has spent his career in the oil and gas industry where he has specialised in a variety of disciplines including engineering, operations, maintenance before settling into a Human Resources role. This diverse experience leaves him ideally placed to adapt to management demands from various internal disciplines. Equally at home managing strategy or planning staffing levels at complex hydrocarbon processing plants. Omar graduated from the University of Bath with a Ph.D. in Combustion Engineering in 1991. Whilst studying in Bath Omar earning sporting recognition, being awarded his sporting 'colours' for both hockey and services to sport.
Dr Simon Wait is the Head of Health, Safety and Environmental at DPE and DUSUP. Simon has nearly 30 years’ experience in the oil and gas industry and has amassed a wealth of industry knowledge. He joined DPE from Schlumberger in Perth, where he managed the HSE function for Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea.
Simon is no stranger to Dubai, having spent a number of years in the UAE working for Schlumberger, Smith Services and Scomi Oiltools managing multiple international territories. The vast majority of his career has been spent focusing on HSE, with a subset focus on environmental and quality management.
Simon gained a BSc Honours in Chemistry, from the University of Durham, and he went on to attain a PhD in Chemistry from the same British institution.
Simon is the Head of Commercial and Strategy for DPE and DUSUP. His role covers the purchase of natural gas and LNG for transportation, storage and sale in Dubai, as well as the sale of oil from DPEs offshore assets. Simon is also responsible for business planning and strategy development for DUSUP and DPE.
Prior to joining DPE and DUSUP, Simon was the Group Manager for LNG at Origin Energy in Australia.
Simon has worked in the energy industry for more than 15 years, focused primarily on LNG, gas and power markets. His roles have ranged from portfolio management, contracting and business development, to regulatory affairs and market design.
Simon earned his First Class Honours degree in Economics from Massey University in New Zealand.
